The air humidity between 60% to 70% is the ideal climate in which orchids feel good .At Summer, when we often open windows, or even put orchids on a free, less air humidity is not a big problem.In nice weather we have in the room somewhere 50% air humidity ,in the cloudy or even rainy weather we have 60% to 80% air humidity.If we have orchids outside, in that case air humidity is practically 100%.
Problems starts at winter.Central heating at home literally run dry air.Usually heating bodies are located under the window sills, where we have orchids.On such cases air humidity can be quickly falls below 40% or even lower.Such humidity is certainly too low if not critical for the survival of orchids, as well as most other house plant.
